Christine King Farris is the sister of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the only surviving member of the King family. She is the author of the children's book My Brother Martin and has been on the faculty of Spelman College since 1958. She lives with her husband in Atlanta.Chris Soentpiet (pronounced: soon-peet) is a recipient of a gold medal from the Society of Illustrators; has received accolades from the International Reading Association, Parents magazine, the American Library Association, the School Library Journal, the Chicago Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the Smithsonian; and has been recognized by the American Society of Portrait Artists Foundation. When not painting, Chris visits schools across the country promoting the love of children's literature and the arts. I can't recommend this book enough. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful, and it is a beautifully-written book as well!

I bought this book to give to my 9 year old grandson for Christmas. It came yesterday and I was curious to see if I could learn anything I didn't already know about Martin Luther King. It was very interesting and written to encourage children to live and work to achieve their dreams. Such an enjoyable and easy read. Very well written.

Good but words

This book is a personal account by Dr. King's sister about growing up with the future trailblazer. It is an easy read aloud, and informative. Good primary source and a great starting place for some good prewriting activities, as well as more detailed writing activities. Nice book.

The idea of erotica short stories to read in bed is wonderful. And some of the ideas in this book are good. But I can't give it a better rating because the editing was very poorly done. This young writer has something to share, however, they need to invest in a professional editor with the next book. I had difficulty reading due to all the typos and mistakes. Also agree with other reviewers than more stories would have been nice. Still not a zero - some sexy stuff within.

These were awful. Poorly written...embarrassed to have spent the money. Can I give a 0 rating? Or a negative star rating? Lol

Terrible editing, hard to get into it when the scene is set in the "leaving" room and the character says "I carve your c*ck". Only 5 similar stories, widely spaced to make thin book appear larger. Don't recommend.

This is a fantastic collection, and it came out at the perfect time in my fledgling copyediting career; I'm familiar enough with what the work entails to easily understand the terminology and topics, but I'm newbie enough to be quite starstruck about the whole process. Excellent-quality essays--illuminating and entertaining--plus plenty of helpful additional reading. Thank you, Mr. Ginna and contributors, for reminding me what I aspire to and why.

As a writer, I found this collection of essays illuminating. I skipped a few that were not relevant to my interests (such as the one devoted to scholarly writing). I learned a lot, enjoyed the reading, and have a new appreciation for the role of the editor in shepherding a text to market. Great stuff.

Very comprehensive analysis of all jobs/functions in the book business, especially the author-editor relationship. Lots of real-life vignettes in reader-friendly language. Also has very interesting insights into the latest revolutionary changes in the book business. VERY useful all around!

Essential reading for anyone in publishing. Well edited. Comprehensive and a good primer and reminder. Aware of the current state of Publishing.

This is one of the few books about writing that grabbed my attention from start to finish. It was very helpful with many great examples. I highly recommend it.

I did not skip a single chapter. Important notes for any of us engaged in the business of making books.

About the Author

James William (Jim) McMurtray was born in the Mississippi Delta. He worked as a science teacher and planetarium director before serving 20 years as a contractor to NASA's Education Division. During this period he presented lectures and workshops on NASA astronomy and space science missions throughout the United States and in Mexico, Venezuela,and Puerto Rico. 

 In 1984-1985 he was an instructor in NASA's Space Flight Participant Program, conducting seminars for the 114 candidates of the original Teacher in Space Project. In 2004, McMurtray presented testimony to the President's Commission on Implementation of US Space Exploration Policy, (Moon, Mars and Beyond) He is the retired Executive Director of the National Alliance of State Science and Mathematics Coalitions in Washington, DC in 2009 and continued to serve NASSMC as Senior Policy Advisor.

 McMurtray has written six novels. He is also the author of Barbarian Science, a humorous book on science literacy in America, (1999), and Starlight, a nationally distributed planetarium show on the physics of stars (1981). McMurtray still writes and speaks on systems thinking and structural reform in science, technology, and mathematics education. He builds boats -- some that fit in bottles and some that you can sit in. He lives in Virginia with his wife. They have five grown children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren -- for whom he sometimes makes up bedtime stories.
