This book claims to be neutral.But clearly the author is in the pro global warming camp. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that his bias is accidental, just one of the things humans do. It is hard not to let your feelings spill over into reality. He also lacks a scientific background saying things like the Germans used "liquid coal" in WW2 . Actually it was synthetic gasoline via the FT Process. And he is a believer in Peak Oil, long ago shown to be untrue . Even if there is probably a Peak Cheap Oil. Despite these criticisms it is worth reading, and he does make some effort to be fair. Though inflammatory comments like "even as wicked problems go, climate change is pretty bad" don't help objectivity.The last part where he talks about solutions makes sense1) Government subsidies for promising technologies (rather than trying to pick winners)2) Government assistance in building a new power transmission infrastructure3) imposing a carbon tax or cap and trade . IMHO this is useless unless done by all the big countries, and only if done in a non political way. In other words almost impossible.4)encouraging public and private prizes for important technology breakthroughsChapter 14 titled "Picking the Least Flawed alternative " is good because there are no easy answers I am in the camp of those who are sure that enough carbon dioxide and methane in the air will eventually produce global warming. But unsure as to when, to what degree, and what should be done about it. After reading this book I still have lots of questions but maybe a few more answers.But I'm still looking for an unbiased view, one that realizes unanimous believe of "experts" does not mean a correct answer. Medicine is far more of a science than climate and not long ago almost none of the experts thought peptic ulcers were an infection.

The author indicated he would give a balanced view of "climate change". Then he proceeded with a thinly veiled promotion that supports all those who think we are doomed by global warming.He makes a plausible case for global warming but fails to tie man kinds actions as the cause.Lastly, he completely ignores how little any of our actions actually impact ghg. Like many global warming proponents he pushes for vast spending on ghg reduction methods which are not impactful on a "problem" which may not exist.Disappointed to say the least.

It is what it says it is: a balanced look at the science of climate change. Each chapter can be delved into in much greater detail if one desires to, but Mr. Stewart did an excellent job of summarizing the different interpretations of the facts. It's especially impressive given that Mr. Stewart is not a scientist but is instead a lawyer. I highly recommend this book to get as balanced a look at the science of climate change as you can these days.

This book is an excellent primer for anyone who wants to know more about the possibility of climate change, how fast it might happen, what can be done to mitigate it, and also why some of what skeptics believe is also supported by science and should not be just dismissed without a thorough review. Extremely well researched and annotated, fully the last quarter of the volume are reference notes so those who wish to verify any of the statements given in the book may see for themselves the source material used to support every contention made in the book.

Knowing what we do know, and realizing that there are still a lot of unknowns, what should we do? What are the risks of doing something proactive versus the risks of doing nothing? We are in an imperfect stage of information and whatever we hear has to be filtered through the various biases of politics and scientific theories and commercial opportunities. Climate of Uncertainty addresses these biases, lays out what is known and unknown, and then presents the risk analysis, action versus non action. This is the most thought provoking book that I've read in a long time. It should be required reading for anyone in policy making positions as well as for a anyone simply interested in the future of our planet. The subject is complex, but Stewart makes it understandable and a most intriguing, interesting read that will make the reader feel like an expert.

This is a very comprehensive, intelligent, fact filled book on the many complex issues concerning the climate. I love how the book addresses data and opinions on both sides of the issue. It covers every angle of the climate issue and all the different types of alternate energy sources. If you want to read real facts about global warming and alternate energy sources, both pro and con, this book in invaluable. Dan Kennedy is probably the greatest marketer period and one of the best copywriters. I’ve listened to many of his courses, but this is the first time I’ve read one of his books cover to cover and he definitely didn’t disappoint. I almost thought that because he has such high priced programs, there’s no way he would give value in a $10-$20 book, but it’s worth a 100x what i paid for it. Anyone that has a business or sells anything needs to read this book.

The book is all about practicality. I believe the strongest advise he has is to make swipe files. I created a sales letter from just the instructions but did not look at what others have done and it flopped. So, copy what works. Do not reinvent the wheel. He says the process is less creative and more formulaic. I would say stick to exactly what he says.

Love this book!! get it and get to work on your business copywriting....learn what realy matters in your business; it is not "being" a good "technician, or getting better at the services that you provide, or the operations that you run...it is bout learning the psychology of the people that you sell to and what attracts them!! THis book has helped my in my learning of sales copy, but more importantly it gets into the core principles of marketing. Great great and very helpful.

While some information in this book is a bit dated and it was primarily focused on direct marketing, Dan Kennedy also shares timeless principles of writing sales letters that can be applied even today no matter what kind of sales letters you are writing.Getting to know your target audience will never become outdated, and the suggestions he shares from his past experience are quite thorough. He mentions that in order to get into the mind of his readers, in this instance dentists, he'd read every industry publication every month, visit websites that host discussions forums for dentists, subscribe to email groups where only dentists communicate back and forth, attend industry functions, conventions, seminars, trade shows, he'd play prospect, and routine mastermind with dentists.He then shares a step-by-step process he used to write a copy, very detailed with various examples. He shares a fill-in-the-blank headlines with examples, different ways to attract attention and to overcome barriers, how to re-write and then he offers an extensive check-list with 35 points to check your copy.Yes he does have a plug for his website and services which I find appropriate in this book, and he also has a plug for few other tools like mike Capuzzi's CopyDoodles.He then suggests re-writing for passion, and editing for clarity, and how to test your copy.At the end of the book you'll find additional resources.

Since pretty much anybody who is anybody in sales and marketing learned from Dan Kennedy, and since Dan Kennedy himself never stops learning and improving, it's fair to say that this is a guys whose every word is well worth hanging on.I've just started reading this book as I have a number of his other books to get through also, and right from the start he has over-delivered with an offer of a free 12-week sales letter writing email course. He then dives straight to the "meat" with 10 crucial questions to help home in on the exact angle that will get your mail opened and read.This book is a comprehensive "how to" manual, written entertainingly and in a way that really gets the lessons across and helps you to implement at the same time.

Yep, Dan is an information marketer, i.e. he wants to sell you the information he has compiled on selling information or becoming a direct marketer. There is no doubt that he is good at it. There is no doubt he can help the people and business that want to sell more. This is a great source for compiling a great, effective profit generating sales letter. It has been on my shelf since the second edition. When I couldn't find my old copy, I bought this third edition. Which, as far as I can remember, is actually better.The thing is you have to get past the fact that the book is a sales letter. As far as I am concerned it ought to be a sales letter, that's what the book is about. Right?!? Of course it is. So to those who would say this is not a good book because it gives his websites every few pages - Get Over It! The fact of the matter is that Dan Kennedy is a Direct Marketer / Information Marketer. This book is great illustration of how he he is successful at it. Read it, takes notes, write down your own thoughts and learn. As far as references to websites that are selling you high priced advice and information, look and learn. Besides this book has a light touch compared to his and other Direct Marketers. In this book he actually references a good deal of sites, books and information that is not his. He isn't profiting off of all of it.He starts with an excellent set of excersizes that help the writer: Identify the Customer,Identify the Real MarketIdentify What Their Best Interests are, etc.Then he guides you through the art of crafting your message in the subsequent chapters. I have used these approaches since I first read them 15 years ago and forgot where I had learned them until re-reading this edition.This is one of the better sales letter books and one of the best Dan Kennedy books. If you take it for what it is and what it's cover promises, it is a great book. persuasion

This is probably the most entertaining (and at the same time practical) book that I have read on trial practice. I could not put this book down once I started reading it. I learned more advanced techniques in presentation than any other book I have read on the subject. Especially loved the parts on Opening Statements and Cross-examination (the Mark Lanier section on opening alone would be worth the cost of the book, but there is so much more). Maybe the best part of this book is that the author explores not only how these attorneys would present large interesting cases, but also asks the attorneys about skills that can be used in everyday smaller cases. Great Book, with no filler. You will not regret this purchase!

One sign of a great teaching tool is that you can refer to it and each time gain a fresh insight. This is that kind of book. I've already told my friends to buy it and that if they don't like it, I will pay them the money back; I think my money's safe.Read features descriptions of, and transcripts from, actual cases tried by many lawyers, some famous (Alan Dershowitz, Mark Lanier, Robert Bennett) and some less famous but equally accomplished. Each chapter includes excerpts from one of the lawyer's major cases, spliced together with interviews and explanations. It's an ambitious book that, contrary to its title, covers more than just trials; there are major chapters on depositions and appellate arguments.To use a sports analogy, it's like sitting down with the Super Bowl winning QB and coach, and walking through the game film of every important play in the game, so that you understand what was done and why each step of the way. It's a fantastic way to learn.

Excellent -- I read it cover to cover in basically a day. It would be worth a read just for all the good ideas and pointers from the all-star lawyers who are profiled, but there is also a lot of good explanatory material by the author which makes the book much more than just a collection of trial war stories.

As someone who isn't a lawyer, I found Turning Points at Trial to be an extremely interesting read. The author interviews well-known attorneys and simplifies what can be learned from his most intriguing trials. The cases were so compelling that I felt it read like a novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any lawyer or individual looking for a thought-provoking read.

This book pulls back the curtain on what makes for a successful trial lawyer. It not only includes excerpts from actual trials, but also tips and strategies from the lawyers themselves based on the author’s interviews. I really wanted to love this book and I know I will make some of the designs but I found the instructions a bit hard to follow (maybe it's just me). All the pages came out ok in the Kindle edition and navigating was pretty simple but the table of contents doesn't identify the patterns, only the lessons and the index lists the patterns but it wasn't very descriptive. Also, there were pictures of designs (such as those adorable baskets) but the designs aren't in the book. I was hoping to give this book to my niece who is just beginning to crochet, and I still might for the pictures of how to do the stitches but I would want her to use simpler designs so she doesn't get confused.February 10-- I spent some more time going through the book and really checking it out. There are some really nifty e-book features, including links to PDF diagrams and stitch symbols which make the book much easier to use. So I am changing my rating to 4 stars -- I still think a true beginner would need some hands-on assistance to get the best out of this book. And I still have to jump all over the book to find a particular project. But if you know how to crochet, there are some beautiful designs in here.

I adore this book. I teach crochet 3x a week and it has become my favorite book to recommend to students. It goes through every stitch with clear and thoughtful photos and a project to match each stitch. She gives actual weights for your yarns (instead of just yardage) so you don't have to guess if your yarn will work or if you will have enough. If you read the book she does say what yarns are used for each project...it's just towards the end. I have not found one mistake and all of the projects are wonderful. I have a lot of fiber art books in my library and this is one of my top 5 right now. GET IT

This book is well-written and it is easy to follow. The patterns and directions are contemporary and beautiful! I highly recommend this book to fellow crafters.

Fantastic crochet book! I had it checked out from the library so long, I figured I better buy my own copy! Great instruction, steady build from easier projects to more intricate, pictures of projects as well as sketches of stitches make it easy to follow. I'm already boasting a few of these new stitches in my projects--HIGHLY recommend this book!

This was a gift for my daughter. She immediately began working on one of the projects. The photos are beautiful and helpful. At least one of the projects seemed to be missing finishing information or I would have given this book five stars.

Good visual instructions were in this book. I wouldn't do many of the projects because they do not interest me.

This is really a great book. I've crocheted for 50 years, but beginners would have no problem. I just would be able to finish faster.

This book has really creative and unique patterns that are not difficult. I would highly recommend it to crocheters at any skill level.

But I do. The audio book version is read by the author, himself, and is an absolute treat. Even the dark bits end up with a laugh. Hes not just telling you about his life, hes spinning it into lessons and anecdotes that leave me wishing it were a few hundred chapters longer.

As the mother of a 20 year old meth addict, who is currently living this nightmare, this helps me understand a little the insanity in his head. 10 detoxes in the last 8 months alone. Periods of sobriety up to 7 weeks, this last time, and yes the periods between using are getting longer each time. There is very little for the indigent here, and I can’t afford it-paying his sober living rent has left me with nothing. I relate to the terrible things Nic put his family through, the incessant worry, the outrageous thefts, stealing the car, breaking into my house in the middle of the night. I can only pray that this will be the last time, I don’t know if I have any hope left. I’ve put this book on his phone and asked him to read it, I think there is so much he will relate to, and maybe, just maybe, he will see a glimmer of hope and take advantage of any services he’s offered...and I will have my sweet, shining boy back, and he will have a life worth living.

I bought this book for my daughter who is an addict. She uses it as a refresher course for what can happen when you let your sobriety slip. All of the books by Nic Sheff and his dad are a first hand account of what the drug culture has done to addicts, their parents (or anyone who loves them), their decreased potential in life, and the consequences of drug abuse. If you love an addict, you'll understand. If you know an addict, get this book into his or her hands.

I read "Beautiful Boy" and it was like seeing my life with my drug-addicted daughter unfold. There were some incident differences but the feelings of a father trying to save his son is something I relate to on a deep level. Reading "Tweak" has let me see the pain and horror from my daughter's perspective and feel more sympathetic to what she's feeling. As a result, I am finding it easier to forgive and accept that her actions are not intended to personally attack me or my loved ones. I recommend anyone who is addicted to drugs or anyone who loves someone who is addicted read both books. I have cried for the father, the son, my daughter and myself while reading them but, somehow, I feel cleansed emotionally through seeing other lives that are similar to ours. God bless all who are affected by the heartbreak that is drug addiction.

He comes off as a spoiled, pretentious, name dropping, very confused young man. I realize he is trying to establish a “tone” for his voice as a writer, but he sounds amateurish and dismissive. The over-use of words such as “whatever”, “amazing “, “like”, and “you know?” has him sounding like a 90s era bratty child who just repeats the same whiney phrases over and over. The story itself does not seem to have a solid outline, and at times confuses the reader due to his mix-up of past and present tense. I found him to be highly unlikeable character, out of touch with the real world, manipulative, and too much of a Hollywood try-hard. His story was very dark and difficult to read, and I respect his bravery for telling it, but I feel the writing was rushed and repetitive. For someone who claims to be oh so talented and special, as well as told his whole life about how special and different he is, his writing skills did not reflect any such talent to me. I feel for his struggle as an addict, and I was very interested to know the inner soul, mind and feelings of someone who was in the throes of drug abuse, but this book just did not deliver that to me in any way.

I started with Beautiful Boy because it's told from a parent's perspective, and I too am a parent of a recovering addict. While I could definitely sympathize with Nic's father and his feelings, reading Tweak from Nic' s perspective helped me more with my son and what he's gone through. This book is amazing! It's also a Christmas present for my son this year. I only hope he gets as much from it as I did and continues on his journey of sober life one day at a time!

Having just read “Beautiful Boy” I wasn’t sure if I could stomach “Tweak”, but as many other reviewers stated, it’s a page turner and I couldn’t put it down. Having been on both sides of the aisle I was reminded of the twisted thinking in an addict's world. You have a bond with drug friends that you can’t imagine giving up any more than the drug itself. But then that’s part of what makes it so hard to kick, just when you’re feeling at your lowest physically and emotionally, you have to give up all your “friends” at the same time. And by then you’ve burned all your bridges so there is no one else to turn to – not waiting for you with open arms anyway. You can’t stand to be around family, people outside the drug world, because their judgment forces you to look in the mirror and that’s way too ugly. So you lash out, spewing hatred to drive them away. I’m glad I read the book. It provides the reader with an insight into an addict’s way of thinking, which if you’re dealing with one, helps you understand their singularly focused bent on self-destruction. The kid’s no Dickens, but he’s very young still. Here’s hoping he’ll make it once and for all and have something else to write about one of these days. In the meantime, he’s done some good for the rest of us trying to figure out an answer to unanswerable.

Nick shares his daily struggles as he goes through his addiction to various drugs. A stark reveal of how addiction makes an addict think and act. Personal boundaries and values fall away as he focuses on getting his fix. Each day is consumed by his effort to get high and find more supply. How he survived this troubling period in his life is only a result of luck. This book could easily have not been written if he did not survive.Anyone who has friends, or relatives who struggle with addiction will find this book a way to gain insight into what their lives can be like. For those who contemplate experimenting with drugs it is an example of how ONE wrong decision can ruin your life and the lives of those who love you.This book also showed me what I did not understand about the life of a relative who suffered from addiction and allowed me to forgive him for what transpired between us. He did not survive as Nick did.
