As stated in every other review, this book is simply phenomenal. Not to parrot the rest of them, I'd like to point out perhaps it's only flaw, in my opinion.The author abuses notation quite uncomfortably. As a physicist trying to learn math, at times the author mixes the mathematicians need for rigor with the physicists sloppy shorthand. And it leaves me utterly baffled. When we are defining the standard flat connection on sections as smooth whatevers over a local trivialization, I find that leaving the fact that we pulled back two things and pushed forward two others to be confusing. I tend to get lost trying to break down the steps. I'll look at a definition and break it down piecewise and associate different facts about the object to other definitions. And then I'll think I screwed up because something is missing, but in reality this being pushed forward was "trivial."Had quite a few occurrences where I try to understand everything from a mathematicians point of view and get lost only to realize that he was just being sloppy like a physicist would. I think a little more consistency would have been great. If he is going to belabor pull backs in one section and then ignore then in the next, it needs to be clearly stated.Also, every single notation used involved parenthesis. A(v) = v(A,v(a))= (Ava(A())V). Really, there are a dozen different delimiters that we could have used. Why does everything have to be enclosed in parenthesis?Aside from these two nitpicks, the book up there with the best I've ever used.

This is a fantastic book!! John Baez is one of the best writers that I have ever seen. He just has this way of of being so straightforward.......I bought this book because I am a topologist and I have always had a hard time understanding differential forms and deRham cohomology. This book is so good at giving that subject a physical and geometrical interpretation. Just about every other book I read on those subjects seems to get so algebraic and I always ask myself "Where did the geometry go?", but not here. This book could serve as a great introduction to riemannian geometry. The physical interpretations of this high powered math is so tastefully done. I am very satisfied with this book!

Amazing book. The authors are very straight forward and not afraid to tell us about some of the short comings that some the models in physics have inherent to them. This is not a bad thing in the slightest. In fact, it is an indicator that there is some much that we still need to learn as a species.

I was surprised that I didn't come across this book until recently. And it was a very pleasant one, must I add.It's a delight to read this book. Even by reading the introductions to all the chapters an 'uninitiated' explorer can actually get a good idea of how these exotic areas of mathematics are interconnected and can be used to describe physical realities. There is a great deal of aestehtics in this interplay, and the book brings them out in its true spirit.The authors are rigorous, but definitely not so much as some of the standard texts in these areas. And they admitted it in the preface itself. The book is like an 'invitation' to this extraordinarily beautiful and modern area of mathematical physics.I am a great fan of John Baez. He has been writing an excelling series of blogs (TWF, and then Azimuth) for a long time, and that IMO probably ranks into the class of the finest ever science writings. No wonder the book carries the strain of the same genius, that of explaining the abstruest in simplied manner, in abundance.

This book jumps right in to the meat of what I am studying and is very good.It should give quite a lot of material to digest for mastery of the subject.

The first two sections of the book on Electromagnetism and Gauge theory fill you with enough details to read more terse monographs. Beginning with an intuitive description of Maxwell's equation, they develop the idea of spacetime, manifolds, vector fields, and finally culminating in the de Rahm theory of electromagnetism touching upon (in sufficient measure) ideas such as homotopy and cohomology. The second half on gauge fields, fibres and bundles, and the Chern Simons theory is equally illuminating (I am yet to study the third and final part on gravity). The text never assumes the dry character that puts off many readers not exactly looking to master the mathematical forms in all their true rigour, maintaining all along a connection to relevant physical problems. This book is not an endless collection of theorems and lemmas.From a personal experience, I read parts of this book in conjunction with another lucidly written text, Symmetry and Standard Model (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1441982663/ref=rdr_ext_tmb), by Matthew Robinson, further enhancing the value of the current work by Baez and Muniain.I can't praise this book or write a more glowing review enough!

Rattiner) on Amazon for a bargain price I decided to purchase it.This wonderful volume has poems from a large group of excellent women poets. Some of the best female poets are included in this collection. There are poems from Anne Bradstreet, Ann Eliza Bleeker, Phillis Wheatley, Susanna Haswell Rowson, Lydia Huntley Sigourney, Sarah Helen Whitman, Harriet Beecher Stove, Julia Ward Howe, Fanny Cosby, Frances E. W. Harper, Emily Dickinson (one of my favorite American poets), Margaret E. Sangster, Katharine Lee Bates, Harriet Monroe, Gwendolyn Brooks, and many other excellent women poets.If you love poetry you should check out this fantastic collection of poems from American women.Rating: 5 Stars. There are many interesting and beautiful poems in the book, the majority of which I did not know - I felt inspired to look for more work by some of the poets. But it is not a diverse collection. I have a hard time imagining that there are only five African American women poets worth publishing in the whole time the book covers, 1600 to 2000, heavy on the 18th and 19th centuries.. And there appear to be no Hispanic, Native American or other women from diverse backgrounds worth a spott. i hope that someone publishes a collection of poetry by a more diverse group of American women poets.

This is an extremely thin book and the paper quality is reflected in the low price. Still, it's an excellent buy for a whole lot of women's poetry at a really affordable price. It's a great book for the homeschool, bedtime read-alouds or as a stocking stuffer, or just to keep in your purse to read through and discover new poems and poets while waiting for the train or the kids or the doctor's appointment.

If you like poetry there is no way you could not like it except for that fact that it does not include enough of the well known & loved female poets such as Edna St Vincent Millay

This book spans more than three centuries of women’s verse and includes more than 200 poems from 74 poets. The book is organized by the birthdates of the poets and does not contain any living women poets. It is a wonderful collection of favorite poems that also includes brief bios...a treasure trove of words and wisdom.

The book was concise, starting from oldest to newest. Very enjoyable, great bedside book. I bought another as a gift. You really can't beat Dover Thrift value.

I have now been studying for a year (starting from practically zero Spanish), and I am using this book as a way to launch into reading in a second language. The stories are interesting,as well as relevant to the culture, the illustrations are good and, a feature I like very much, the book is divided into short chapters which makes it easy to use for a limited period of time and then put down with a section completed. I retired from the teaching profession and, having worked with reluctant readers in English, I know what an advantage that can be. I would recommend this book highly for young Spanish language readers, as well as for those attempting to learn to read Spanish as well.

This book had all the makings of being really good. I liked the storyline idea but there were several things that put me off. One was the dialogue. I understand it's supposed to be authentic but it distracted me from the story...."weel, haesna, didna, etc". I found myself stumbling over these words which distracted me. Two, as others have said that gave this book 3 stars, the heroine is repeatedly described as wee, tiny, no bigger than a child, flat chested, no curves. I have a hard time picturing an attractive "woman" when this stuff is drummed into your head over and over. Three, I don't feel the hero, Conner was developed enough. I didn't get the feeling that he was this big bad highlander that didn't want to express his feelings. I didn't feel strength emanating from his character. If you want to read about "strong" highland men, read Julie Garwood. Now those are some strong Highland Warriors. Four, the first love scene is only described after the fact and it was just not what I was expecting. The other love scenes were just okay...nothing too special. I was left feeling disatisfied after reading this book. I wanted to like it, but it just didn't do it for me.

Whom she knows will be able to help her fix this dilemma.Dad didn't come in time and she ends up choosing Connor. A closed up and hard man. One pushed to be after all the adults are killed off in a feud and as a teen lad has the sole responsibility of leading the widows and orphans through surviving.Gillyanne grows to deeply love Connor and the passion is amazing. But if Connor can't open up at least a little bit Gilly has a out. Will she take it? Will Connor give her the three little words she needs? Find out.

I have this in paperback and have can't count how many times I have read this when I want a good laugh in a love story. This Murray clan is something in this series, I am either laughing or crying. Finally got this on my kindle, am working on getting the rest of the clan. Great highlander love stories that will definitely get your emotions going.

I am currently in the process of reading the whole series. I thought I would just read the first one but it is really hard not to continue on. The books have a humor to them that keep you engaged & the stories are well told & thought out. Hard not to get involved in the characters & the story so I would say if you like this type of genre you will highly enjoy these books & the series. I am on book 7 & will be sad when there are no more. LOL

The heroine was strong, witty, funny, smart, and charming. The hero was also smart but was a jerk through most of the story. I like this story because it was funny at times and very maddening at others. I would recommend this story to all of those who have enjoyed the other books in this series. This book has a lot of ups and downs that couples go through.

This is the 3rd time to read this book. When reading her newest Murray book, I tend to go back and read the books of the past characters. As I am doing now. I think the Elspeth will be next.

Gilly is of course the girl remember from Highland Knight, but now old enough to find her own love. Unfortunately everyone who knows her family well, knows her gift, and feels awkward around her. At first you want to beat Connor over the head until you start to realize his ignorance isn't really his fault. Then you just want to beat his Uncle. Loved the book, very well written and you can't help but talk like the book is written, in your head, even after you've book the book down for about 5 minutes. LOL I found myself saying something to my dog or thinking about something as if I were going to say things like "Wee bit". *grin*

Gilly finds love...the Murrays are a grand Highland family. I have enjoyed each and every one of these books. You will too!

But each of them comes with the same three problems: •They’re really hard. •They’re not sustainable in the long run. •They work against your body, not with it. Zero Belly is something different. In fact, when I built the original Zero Belly Diet, I identified three ways in which the program works. But since its publication in December 2014, we’ve learned even more about the power of the Zero Belly Foods, and new ways to tweak the program to turbocharge your weight loss. Zero Belly Principle #1:  BOOST METABOLISM The first thing Zero Belly does is to turn up the dial on your internal calorie furnace—a furnace that feeds on belly fat. Zero Belly unleashes the power of protein, fiber, and healthy fats to burn calories by encouraging lean muscle growth and maximizing the thermogenic effects of eating—meaning, the number of calories you burn simply by digesting your food. You’ve probably heard a lot about “fat-burning foods,” but how exactly do they work? In fact, there are two types of fat-burning foods: those that decrease blood sugar spikes (when your blood sugar spikes, the hormone insulin rushes in and tries to store the sugar calories as fat), and those that increase metabolism (meaning you literally burn off more calories, even as you sleep). The key is to attack fat from both ends—prevent more from forming while burning off the stores you already have. Foods that control blood sugar generally contain some combination of protein, healthy fat, and fiber—the three hallmarks of a Zero Belly meal. Calorie-burning foods, on the other hand, include green tea, vinegar, and anything that’s high in protein such as eggs, lean meats, and fish. Protein also helps build lean muscle tissue—belly fat’s sworn enemy. In fact, the more muscle your body has, the more belly fat it burns on a daily basis. And the more belly fat you have, the harder it is to maintain muscle mass. That’s why lean protein and other muscle-supporting foods are such a critical component of these recipes. Zero Belly Turbocharge >  Add a cup of green tea each day.  Protein, fiber, and healthy fats are all found throughout these recipes, but adding a cup (or two) of green tea to your daily regimen can help fire your fat furnace in both ways. First, it controls blood sugar and quashes hunger: In a Swedish study that looked at green tea’s effect on hunger, researchers divided up participants into two groups. One group sipped water with their meal and the other group drank green tea. Not only did tea-sippers report less of a desire to eat their favorite foods (even two hours after sipping the brew), they found those foods to be less satisfying. And second, it boosts your calorie burn, especially if you have it before any type of exercise: In a recent twelve-week study, participants who combined a daily habit of 4-5 cups of green tea each day with a 25-minute sweat session lost an average of two more pounds than the non-tea-drinking exercisers. Once again it’s the power of the unique catechins found in green tea that can blast adipose tissue by triggering the release of fat from fat cells (particularly in the belly), and then speeding up the liver’s capacity for turning that fat into energy. All this while doing something unique for your heart: A 2015 study from the Institute of Food Research found that the polyphenols in green tea block a “signaling molecule” called VEGF, which in the body can trigger both heart disease and cancer. Zero Belly Principle #2:  Heal Your Gut Happening right now, inside your belly, is an epic power struggle worthy of Shakespeare. But instead of Tudors and Plantagenets, you have different sorts of microbes battling it out to become monarch of your midsection—about five hundred different tribes, in fact. Some of them break down your food and extract nutrients; others hunt for food pathogens that snuck in on a bad bit of bratwurst; still others help protect you from colds and flus. (In fact, 80 percent of our immune system is based in our guts.) Scientists even believe that depression may be caused in part by unbalanced gut microbes, since 95 percent of our feel-good hormone serotonin is also located in the belly. But it’s our weight that’s most dramatically affected by these little buggers. In fact, studies show that obese people have higher levels of bad bacteria from the phylum Firmicutes, while lean people have higher levels of bacteria from the phylum Bacteroidetes. How critical is a healthy gut to weight loss? Researchers at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea, induced obesity in lab rats by feeding them a high-fat diet, then fed one group of them probiotics (in this case, Lactobacillus brevis, a healthy bacteria found in fermented foods like kimchi). The probiotic suppressed the diet-induced increase in weight gain by 28 percent! But as with any conflict, sometimes the good guys get overwhelmed. Too much junk food (especially sugar) can knock our digestive systems out of whack and give the advantage over to the Firmicutes (a poorly named tribe, as they make you neither firm nor cute); so too can drugs such as antibiotics, heartburn remedies, or antidepressants. That’s why Zero Belly Foods are high in fiber and low in sugar, preservatives, and bloating foods like dairy. When you’re feeling lean and clean, it means your belly is in balance and the good guys are ruling the day. Zero Belly Turbocharge >  Give your belly biome a workout.  One of the big buzzwords in nutrition right now is “resistant starch.” No, it’s not something your dry cleaner sprays on your shirt to make it wrinkle less. I have been on this diet for about a month and am not a test panelist. I have not lost any significant weight or inches yet, but I do like the way this diet has made me focus on what my food contains instead of what it doesn't contain. I was guilty of eating things that were "low fat" or "low sugar" but didn't focus on if they contained anything significant nutrition or were just empty calories. I also like how you can eat lots of real food and don't have to starve. However, for this diet to work for you, you have to be willing to shift the way you think about food and be willing to put a lot of time, effort and planning into meals. I think you have to be driven by the desire for good health more than the desire to lose weight. I have to say I am skeptical of the weight loss claims of some of the reviewers. The thing I have really noticed about this diet is how wonderful my digestion has been. I didn't really had significant problems before, but I really feel good on this diet. I noticed the difference after having one "cheat" meal at a restaurant and noticed that overly full, sorted of bloated feeling I no longer have on this diet. It is most likely due to the fact that this diet eliminated gluten and most dairy.

I really wanted to like this cookbook! I bought the Zero Sugar diet book at the same time (that book I like)The recipes are NOT bad ones, just they require A LOT of different ingredients. I think its because so many different people contributed their recipes, there is a wide variety. I love the variety, but I don't want to have to buy a paste or 3 different spices that are only used in 1 recipe in the book. If your on a budget it gets very costly.

Spectacular book and delicious recipes! A great healthy way to cook that is still packed with tones of flavor! Currently, our favorite is the turkey meatballs over spaghetti squash! It's like a party in your mouth with all the flavors!!! Highly recommend this book to anyone!

First of all, we don't consider this a diet because we are never hungry. The guidance in this book has allowed us to follow a healthy eating style that has resulted in a 30 lb weight loss for my husband and 10 lbs for me! The recipes are easy to follow and we often have most ingredients on hand. I just completed my annual physical with significant improvements in cholesterol and glucose. Give it a try.

A lot of recipes that fit the Zero Belly Diet plan. Lost 17 pounds in a month!

This book is fantastic. I got it because I have IBS and this really helps with that., It also helps with looking a few pounds. the recipes are delicious and recommend for those wanting to loose the belly fat.
