He spent the last five years of his career assisting company attorneys at court trials.In 1968, Baldyga wrote the ground-breaking How To Settle Your Own Insurance Claim, published by Macmillan. DIY -- Do It Yourself -- is big these days. There is even a DIY channel on cable TV. Home improvement projects are fertile ground when it comes to DIY. Fewer, though, might undertake to become their own claims adjuster after being in an automobile collision. Many people understandably find the insurance claims process forbidding and frustrating. To the attempted rescue comes author Dan Baldyga in his book, Auto Accident Personal Injury Insurance Claim. Though I have been in the insurance claims business for 30+ years, I had never heard of this book. I only became aware of it recently in connection with consulting as an expert witness on a litigated insurance dispute.Baldyga's book is essentially a do-it-yourself guide for consumers who are willing to roll up their sleeves and try to handle their own automobile insurance claim. The context here is one of relatively modest injuries. The author, who claims to be a former insurance adjuster and who does not have a law degree, offers a "BASE" formula for unrepresented claimants and policyholders to use in negotiating with their insurance company for settlements. This formula is a multiple of the medical bills and damages quantified by the policy holder. The author hopes to create a level playing field between the unrepresented consumer and the insurance adjuster. (By unrepresented, we mean somebody who has not hired an attorney to handle their insurance claim.)Baldyga clearly believes that he can empower consumers to handle their own insurance claims and to reach a satisfactory resolution.Those in the insurance claim feel may take sharp exception to is formulaic approach, which he calls the base approach. It gives a Low range value, Core value, Mean value and Premium value for an injury claim. These involve multiplying special damages by factors of two, three, three-point-five and four."BASE" is an acronym that stands for Baldyga's Auto accident Settlement Evaluation.Adjusters may feel the BASE approach is base, and may be loath to confess that they utilize a formula approach, including but not limited to the "three times the specials" yardstick. For one thing, why should special damages for diagnostic tests like laboratory work, x-rays or other radiology imaging be multiplied by two, three or four times?Second, using such the formula arguably encourages patients to seek overtreatment and excessive treatment in order to goose up their special damages. Tons of physical therapy. "Heavy" bills for endless chiropractic care. Etc.Third, the formula does not take into account situations of overtreatment or thorny causation questions where there may arise fairly debatable issues as to whether the special damages are due to an auto accident or due to the natural progression of a pre-existing medical condition.Liability factors may also be less than clear-cut, warranting some discounting off the multiplication formula.These are all factors which may undercut the utility and validity of a formulaic approach or any presumption that there is proportionality between medical bills and the true value of the claim.In some cases that may be correct. In other cases, it may be a foundation built on quicksand.To his credit, Baldyga does not demonize insurance adjusters. He maintains the most claims adjusters are reasonably fair and are not out to victimize honest claimants. By and large, he finds that they (adjusters) are professionals and he believes that they're always looking for ways to finalize a case, not looking for ways to deny claims. As he states, "Contrary to public opinion most adjusters don't stay up nights attempting to create new ways to resist the payment of a claim." He recommends that disgruntled consumers and policyholders keep their cool and not unload on claims adjusters.Baldyga maintains that he has a lifetime of experience in the field of motor vehicle accidents, personal injury and compensation. Personal injury attorneys may wince at this book since, if it has its intended effect, it will result in fewer cases going to attorneys.For intrepid consumers who want a guidebook and cookbook for navigating the automobile car insurance process, Baldyga's book may provide a handy reference guide. This book helped me to settle my car accident case without an attorney. I was sitting at a stop sign and got rear ended by another driver. The book provided step by step instructions and offered helpful tips on how to negotiate with the claims adjuster. The only item the book lacked was how to write a demand letter. However, I received that information by Google "Demand Letter" and found a nice example with tips on what to write. When I was close to settling my case I called an attorney to see if he could provide me with a bottom line dollar settlement figure. The attorney told me that if he represented me he would possibly get $10,000 tops. Of course, I would have to subtract his 1/3 percent fee. Well, after following the instructions of this book I ended up receiving $10,500 for my case without paying the 1/3 fee of $3,150 which would have left me with only $7,350. Since I represented myself I received the FULL $10,500.

This book was very informative though was quite wordy and I had to read and re-read a couple areas a couple times to understand it. However, I was able to make a chart for myself based on his explanation and will use that as a basis for the settlement amount I am requesting from the insurance company of the other, at-fault, driver. After reading this book, I am confident and feel very steadfast in the settlement amount that I have requested from that insurance company. I'm anxious for the final outcome!

It was a perfect book. With the very little education I had, I could understand this book very well and no need for an attorney . It is all about being truthful and straightforward . As long as you followed the principles of this book, you should come better financially than employing a lawyer, for most part the case rest on facts than law.

This book is why I love reading middle grade! THE FIRST RULE OF PUNK by Celia C. Pérez has everything I look for in a story. Malú is a heroine with guts and heart and a strong sense of self, all which stands her in good stead as she navigates the ups and downs of being a new girl in school and in her neighborhood. She is also an artist, creating zines to express her feelings and interests. I love her spunk something fierce.I enjoyed the blend of Latino culture, punk music, strong family ties, and the drama that is the world of middle school. As a former seventh grade teacher, the on-going dress code issues cracked me up.So, just how good is this book? Well, folks who know me know I gravitate to urban fantasy and magical realism and male protagonists. But THE FIRST RULE OF PUNK had me at the opening scene and wouldn’t let me go until I finished it.Bravo to Celia C. Pérez on her debut novel. This is an author I’ll be following from now on. Highly recommended.

This is one of my favorite books of the year! The First Rule of Punk by Celia C. Pérez is about twelve-year-old Malú, a Mexican-American girl who moves to a new state with her mom (who Malú calls “Super Mexican”). As Malú adjusts to her new school, she works on her zines (which are cleverly inserted into the book itself) and starts a punk band with other school misfits. I loved this book, and I guarantee you will too!

Oh how I adored this story of Malu, a biracial girl, who copes with a move across the country to Chicago with her mom and finding her place in her new school, her new neighborhood, and her family. Her parents are endearing and relate-able, as are the community members. What a great story about how to navigate through changes just as life for all middle schoolers seems to be in shambles. Malu is an accessible character for kids, with flaws and also a kind, justice filled heart.Plus, the zines are incredible! What a great outlet for kids!

Such a fun book! I’m an adult that reads middle grade fiction and I thought the book was colorful, funky, and a great story. Would highly recommend to children and adults!

I finally got around to reading this book. What can I say? I’m a puddle of emotions. It’s perfect and I’m not surprised at all at all the awards it has received. The voice is stellar. Malú, the character is real and endearing. The story, the writing, the premise, everything is perfect and I’m so happy to live in a world here this book exists. I really liked this book. It had just the right amount of young teen/tween angst plus the bonus of some good 80s music references!

Run don't walk to read this book. Give it to the kids in your life, their friends, the library, a school.This isn't *my* story, but every weirdo out there will connect with this tween and her desire to be herself AND connect with all of her heritage and passions in life.

McTiernay clan commander Dugan is a known seducer and it is common knowledge that he isn't one for commitment, though that doesn't keep ladies from trying. When he encounters a mysterious and beautiful woman while out checking on outlying families, he is intrigued by the fresh face. Immediately the two wind up having a nameless tryst then go their separate ways. Of course this fiery woman is Adanel Mackbaythe, daughter of the cruel Laird Mackbaythe and is afraid of forming any attachments since her father brutally executed her first love right in front of her. Adanel is desperate to escape her life under her cruel father but he has made so many enemies she has few options. Upon reflection on her encounter with the obviously unattached McTiernay soldier, Adanel thinks he may be the perfect solution, someone who could stand up to her father, and a brief year's handfast would be all she would need.Dugan has no problem with loyalty, but he trusts no one but himself and the feelings his mysterious lover brings to life in him are new and alarming, as is her desire to remain nameless as their tryst becomes more serious. The mystery grows old for Dugan and he tries to learn more about his redheaded paramour in an effort to cleanse her from his every waking thought.Soon both begin to acknowledge, to themselves at least, that their feelings for one another are deepening and Adanel becomes increasingly more fearful of being honest with Dugan because she fears losing him. Neither wanted to be in love but that is just what has happened, though it may not be enough to keep them together, especially when their illicit meetings come to light, leading to war between their feuding clans and Dugan's need to have revenge for what he sees as a betrayal causes their paths to cross once again.Although I haven't read the previous book in this series, I do have it in my TBR pile and since I saw the angry reviews about its cliffhanger ending I couldn't resist just skimming the epilogue of that book to be prepared for this one and thought it in rather poor taste as a way to encourage people to get the next book. That said, that same epilogue features as a chapter in this book when the storyline jumps forward three chapters in and is a key plot point in this story. Even before that leap there was quite a lot of jumping back and forth to give us scenes from both main characters' points of view and that got a bit confusing at times when combined with the timeline changes.Dugan was a bit hypocritical in his desire for Adanel's trust when he is unwilling to trust anyone. When he learns who her family is he feels betrayed and hardens his heart without allowing her to explain her reasons for not yet confiding in him; he believes her to be scheming and manipulative like her father, even after feeling like he knows her. This leaves Adanel heartbroken and essentially her father's prisoner and leaving both with huge amounts of anger toward each other. I found myself frustrated with Dugan and yet understanding of his mistrustfulness. Same for Adanel. Both have been betrayed and are very stubborn and it takes a lot for them to actually talk and try to make progress with their relationship, much less survive the near-war they've inadvertently caused.There were so many storylines and elements for this one couple to go through and it really didn't look like they'd be happy, even if together. Although their love came about quickly, their story afterwards took a long time to develop and had many elements for them to contend with. In that respect this certainly didn't read like the typical historical romance and I somehow had the feeling that it was dragging on a bit, but also that it ended rather abruptly and without too much of a climax. So I had some mixed feelings about this one, but I did enjoy it overall.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Too quick to rush to judgement without knowing all the facts does quite a number on this main couple’s budding romance. Dugan wasn’t doing himself any favors by discounting Adanel’s, his mysterious secret lover, affection for him. He’s a man who seems to be on a mission to look for reasons why he can’t marry, then why he’ll never trust her. He’s a guy who cares more about being right than being happy, folks. This was proven time and time again throughout the story. Honestly, I found myself applauding all the times Adanel gave him harsh words right back and the cold shoulder to boot. Thankfully she wasn’t one to just to take it, folks.Adanel was trapped between a rock and a hard place. Desperate to get away from her family leaves her unexpectedly hatching a plan to be with a man she wasn’t expecting to fall in love with. But she did, my fellow romance book loving friends, then had her heart stomped on repeatedly.With a large cast of sub-characters, clan business involving three families, and a twist that put Dugan and Adanel in an unexpected arrangement, I did stay fully engaged, despite my frustration at this stubborn, refused to admit he was mistaken, knuckleheaded hero. My only regret is Adanel didn’t just take off and make this Highlander have to hightail it after her to make things right. At least he eventually came to his senses. I like to think he regretted his actions, too.As a lover of relationship angst, that part was right up my alley. The writing flowed, and despite everything he put her through, I was glad things worked out for them, though he really tried my patience. The review of the Kindle Version of the Imitation of Christ, specifically TRANSLATED BY REV. WILLIAM BENHAM, DIGIBOOKS PUBLISHING, is written in the old English. If you prefer your bible translation as the King James Version, then this is the version for you. If you prefer a different translation, say NIV, or the New King James 2016 Version, then this is NOT FOR YOU. I do recognize that subtle but sometimes important differences can be had between translations, but for me, I do like the DOVER THRIFT VERSION.Amazon is NOT clear on the version of the book you are purchasing; when on the DOVER VERSION in amazon, purchases made in the paperback mode provide the specific version I wanted; but also wanting the Kindle version it showed it was available in that version. However, once you choose the Kindle version, it brings you to another screen where the cover is different. I did no pick up that subtlety initially and purchased via ebook what I though I purchased in paperback form. They should not show the Dover Version with a choice of Kindle version unless the Dover Version is what is being delivered to my Kindle. BAD AMAZON!

I've read only the first 30%. The majority of the book is do's and dont's about how to be a better person. That would ordinarily bore me but this list is surprisingly fresh and contains a number of ideas that go beyond the obvious. It's not written from a dogmatic 'do this or God will punish you' point of view. Instead it's more like 'you'll go deeper in your meditation practice if you avoid these pitfalls'.The benefit of reading it is not so much that I learn new information but that it seems to work on the reader's mind in a subtle way, so that if one opens the book feeling agitated about the details of his or her complicated life, after a chapter or two one is reminded that life is something deeper than those trivial details. After twenty minutes of reading I often forget completely whatever thought was troubling me and feel calmer and more clearly motivated to focus on what really matters in life and let everything else take its own natural course.The author makes occasional mention of a secret level of spiritual instruction that is given to only a select few. Although it's interesting to speculate about what type of instruction the author refers to, don't hope for this book to divulge too much about its contents. The author stays focused on the main topic of how to structure ones outer life to facilitate development of the inner life.

~A Carmelite Hermit/Priest once came upon me reading a copy of 'The Imitation of Christ' in the cloistered garden of the hermitage that I was living at temporarily. He sat beside me and looked at my book with a warm smile, he said "Always keep this book close to your heart, and you will never go astray". Since that day, it is rare for me to go anywhere without a well read copy of the Catholic Classic stuffed with care in my bag, and read a chapter or two every chance I get. It never gets 'old', and it's refreshing, penetrating words always "speak to me" in new and inviting ways, as if it were the first time reading that particular passage every time! I was very pleased to see these new leather zip-cover versions, as I've gone through a couple soft cover versions with daily wear and tear, in and out of the backpack, etc. There are two versions in these similar covers, two different translations by two seperate publishers. The one pictured here is my personal favorite, published by TAN, it is the same trusted and true old translation that is found in the beloved old 'Confraternity of the Precious Blood' versions.... that familiar little blue soft-covered version with stunning b&w detailed pictures to meditate upon as you read. This version was originally translated from Latin by Richard Challoner D.D., and is more true to the original translation. Though it is written in an older style of proper English, it is easy enough for most people to comprehend, and the older writing style has much artistic, poetic charm that is often times lost in some of the newer 'up-to-date' English translations. Remember, this is the second most translated and published book in history next to the Holy Bible! The other new leather zip-cover version available now looks nearly identical to this, but rather than a Cross on the front cover, it has a 'Chi Ro' design and omits the authors' name. This version, equally impressive, is put out by the Catholic Book Publishing Co., and is the same translation (edited by Clare L.Fitzpatrick) that is available in the small red hardcover version that is quite popular by the same publisher. This too is an excellent version, but the translation is much more modern and more readable by the everyday layperson, or anyone who wishes to hear this timeless wisdom in a more easily accessible version without the 'thee's, thou's, and shall's" of the aforementioned version. It's personal preference, example...first line of the TAN version = "He that followeth me, walketh not in darkness," ..... as opposed to the CBPC's version, "No one who follows Me will ever walk in darkness." (John 8:12). ~But, to be truly enlightened and touched by these timeless words of wisdom of the Spiritual Life, I reccommend buying both versions, and absorbing both as to get a better understanding of these holy and guiding words. There are those who may say that A' Kempis's writings are 'not for everyone', as most of his writings were written to give guidance to the young novitiates of his monastic order where he served as Novice Master for a time, but please do not let that turn you away from the holy and life changing power of his spiritually uplifting direction that still speaks to many today. If you have any call to any form of holiness, or just want to enhance and reinvigorate your daily spiritual life, there is no way that you can go wrong with Thomas A 'Kempis and this, his most well known and loved body of work.

I found this book an excellent source of down to earth information and guidance. It is clear, well-written and easy to read. I recommend it highly to people living with Spinal Cord Injury, their Caregiving Spouses, and psychotherapists working with clients impacted by such injuries. It covers all the bases and as such is a highly valuable contribution to the world of Spinal Cord Injury.

Interesting read. Lots of good facts about SCI

This book is quite informative about this subject and serves as an entree to the subject! I recommend the previous book more highly.

Since my SCI in May of 1999 we have accumulated a pile of books dealing with various aspects of SCI. At 1/10th the price, this book is many times better than any of the others. Their down to earth approach leads you from the point of injury until the day you make the transition from patient to the new you. Outstanding!

I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Sara Palmer at a volunteer event for people with various disabilities. Her authenticity immediately became evident. We had lunch and discussed her book and experience in rehabilitation. A quick lunch and coffee became a 2 ½ hour conversation!As a C5-C6 SCI of 23 years, I can honestly state that Dr. Palmer has a comprehensive understanding of the onset of SCI and what it means to live with a significant disability. She is NOT solely an academic; in fact, Sara is passionate about SCI and helping the individual and his or her family adapt and thrive.Let’s discuss a bit about the book. I asked myself whether or not the format and content of the book would be helpful to me and my family in the days immediately following my injury in 1992—the answer is yes. The use of medical terminology may make the book seem rigid and academic, but it is incredibly necessary because those who sustain a SCI need a crash course on understanding who they are biologically in order to recover function and maintain their health over the years. Including stories from those with SCI provides hope for the individual who is most likely overwhelmed.In addition, including information on romantic relationships, independent living, and advances in treatment give the reader a sense of balance that they are not a diagnosis, but still a person who can experience a satisfying Quality of Life.Let’s be honest here, living with a SCI presents many challenges, so I don’t know that there is any book that could be written that leaves one feeling warm, fuzzy, and content. The power in this book is that it is realistic and captures a lot of complex emotions and topics associated with SCI.As a rehabilitation counselor and founder of an organization devoted to improving the lives of folks with SCI, I recommend this book to anyone recently injured or living with this disability.

T-8 thru 12, L1-5, rods, screws the whole big deal. After a month in rehab, and a month at home, I was lost and confused. I got this book read it cover to cover and I started to understand what happened to me and how I was now going to live going forward. Absolutely a must read for anyone with a spinal cord problem. Learning to live with all the issues that come with spinal cord damage is hard but this book was the best tool for getting your life back on track. Thank you Ms. Palmer for explaining how to live with this life changing event.

Although I appreciate the effort and dedication of the authors, I must warn my disabled brethren that no book will teach YOU how to live withYOUR disability. Only you can prevent stairs! ;)

This book quickly made it to my discard pile. It is full of speculative information from the outside by able bodied professionals who are clueless about the day to day reality of SCI. I would not recommend this book as a useful reference for anyone affected by SCI.

I knew by the ending of the first book in this series (Over The Falls) that this book was going to be thrilling and filled with romance but I would have never imagined how thrilling it would be in the end!At first, I was a little confused on how this story started since we were left with that cliffhanger in Over The Falls but once I realized what the Author was doing, it all made total sense in the way that you get the full Savannah story! With Savannah coming off the breakup of her and Aidan, then having her best friend go into a coma without an answer to who did it, nothing about Savannah is what it seems. Then, we are introduced to the handsome but elusive Griffin and his story that will make you shed a tear for what he is having to endure without anyone knowing the truth.As you get deeper in the story with Savannah and Griffin falling in love, you know that something bad will happen but you would never imagine how far would Savannah and Griffin go in order to protect each other. I don't want to spoil too much from this point on but the ending to this book sets the scene for what is coming in the third book that will have everyone on the edge of their seats for what is about to happen and what truths are about to be finally revealed!If anything, I think this series is my all time favorite now of Jordan Ford's for all the action and romance that it brings. Having each book end with a cliffhanger is total icing on the cake for me because it just makes you excited for what may happen in the next book!Thank You to Jordan Ford for this thrilling installment to this series that made it totally worth it, losing sleep over!!I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the Author!

Ok, wow, where to start.This was such a great read, the story felt so wholesome, so good. I absolutely loved Griffin, he is sweet, respectful, protective. What more could you ask in a boyfriend. He was such a good choice for Sav, she deserves happiness and they make a perfect couple.I am so grateful I've got to read this so soon because I read the first book when it came out and I really needed this. I had it on pre-order already but it made my day that I could put my hands on it before the publishing date.I will say that this is perfect young adult read, very clean and well written. Aside from some small drama nothing major happens, we just see our beloved characters grow into themselves and preparing for adulthood. I recommend this to teens wholeheartedly.And what I loved the most were the relationships between the characters. There will be the most unlikely friendships formed and you will be so happy for them, you just can't help it.Now I really want to read Sky's story, I bet it will be soooo good.

I was privileged enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book from the author for a voluntary and honest review.Wow, what a fabulous, powerful, well written story this is, its full of action and caught my interest from the beginning, the storyline kept me intrigued and I wanted to know what would happen next. This storyline is captivating, flows really well, hooks you in and grabs a hold of your heart. It took me through several emotions, I even shed a tear or two. Can't wait for Skylar's book.

Wow this book was just as good as the first one in this series. I simply devoured it, couldn't put it down from the first word to the last. This story picks up with Skyler in hospital in a Coma and focus on Savannah and Griffin's story. Savy's try to not only cope with what happen to her best friend but losing her boyfriend. Griffin is a nomad with a past, who slowly falls in love with Ryder Bay but with Savy. Will his past come back to haunt him forcing him to run or will hurt the only person who's given him a reason to stay.Can't wait for the next boo, have already reordered it.

Oh my gosh this book was sooo good. Jordan Ford did an an amazing job continuing the story of Ryder Bay. I could not put this book down as the story started to unfurl in the second half. She really makes you feel the emotions of her characters. I love the fact that Harley and Aidens story continued in this second book and you can see how their relationship grows as well as seeing how Savannah changes as well. Such an amazing story and I can not wait to read the next book!
